The real strength of XactCommerce™ is its ability to be customized. The Web page metaphor allows interfaces to be crafted for specific audiences or even specific individuals. It allows information to be presented to customers, vendors, employees or managers in a meaningful, controlled fashion that is dynamic, up to date this moment, and yet still entirely secure.

XactCommerce™ web templates written with XactScript provide a separation of the interface and the underlying business logic and data management facilities. This means that the pages used to display information can be customized extensively by individuals with only advanced Web Development skills. You don't have to hire expensive programmers who can sort out complex SQL queries and complex programming structures to change a word, a picture, add additional fields, names of individuals to receive e-mail copies, and much more.

XactCommerce™ V3.0 uses Java Servlets to create the "back-end" traditional business transaction interface. XactSystems (Formerly, Life & Energy Systems, Inc.) programmers still manage all aspects of this "back-end" interface for now. In version 4.0, all aspects of the user interface (front and back-end) will be available to the Customer to make changes as they need.

XactSystems provides customization for our customers as a primary function. We see this work being taken over by local experts across the country as these individuals are identified and trained. But for now, we do this, and do it well, and often very economically compared to most any alternative you might attempt to use. Simply because we have a very cool set of tools to get the job done.. XactCommerce™ running on XactObjects™ Business Logic Servers using our XactScript™ Object Control Language.

XactCommerce™ is flexible enough to be used for some pretty wildly ranging missions such as:

  • Acting as a web-site content management infrastructure with revision control, providing high resolution images, reports, sales tools with access control that only allows customers who have purchased specific product to download those images. (This info is actually entered into customers's AS-400 system and simple report is updated daily and passed to our site where it is automatically processed and new customers have access the very next day.) Automatically dispatching consumer, rep and retailer forms and queries for processing by the appropriate customer employees, and providing "bulk" email list management for effective two-way communications.

  • Handling orders for a computer game and sending them to a fulfillment house as a data packet that can be processed by their legacy order management system, processing credit card payments, sending Serial numbered e-mails so that traceability of all communications is assured and providing monthly sales tax reporting.

  • Acting as a Portal for an area Heavy Equipment dealer offering product information, providing a mechanism for placing news items and specials including graphics from Microsoft PowerPoint slides with little or no html coding, offering information on Used and Rental equipment available, providing links to a third party general items ecommerce site, accepting orders for specialty parts and surveying individuals requesting quotes and ordering parts for demographic and future purchasing interests to prep for sales representative follow-up.

  • Managing Prescription Orders and Refills (not a single dollar passes through the system in this deployment) but our access control architecture allows easy conformance with new HPPA privacy requirements.

  • Handling ecommerce normal drop ship package orders, while at the same time, providing a B2B interface for resellers placing purchase and drop shipped release orders to manage their inventories while making long term commitments for sales and pricing. This site also manages access to demo downloads, provides for copy protection and registration of copies installed by providing an encrypted unlocking key, and even directing would be "pirates" to a special interface where they can pay for their copy! For which they are registered as legal owners and receive all connected user benefits. And oh, by the way, the site will also electronically invoices resellers when goods are shipped by a third party packaging firm.. automatically. As well as, keeping the books.. (This is what we mean by customization!!)
Customization creates an eBusiness system that works for you. Not you working for it. One where your customers and vendors save you time and by entering data for themselves rather than you having to hire clerks to retype faxes, e-mails or phone orders. A system where the shipping or receiving clerk doesn't even see that this is an accounting system.. they just fill out the forms.. or even just scan the bar code type a number and push a button. A system where customers can check on their bill, make a payment, update their address or phone, post comments or ask for help even when no one is in the office. A system that can be set to send e-mails notifying key people of new orders, shipments, new contacts, surveys, postings, large purchases, changes in address or login names .. literally any change that merits a manager or a staff member know or follow up. And a systems which automates the obvious steps, when you want that. So that normal data handling doesn't have to mean wasting time.
